Fall Capsule Wardrobe

This Fall, I’m trying something new! I wanted to create a fall capsule wardrobe. Now, for those not familiar with the term, it is essentially a selection of items that you can wear a ton of different ways and help serve as the basis for your wardrobe for a season or month. The great thing about the capsule wardrobe is that it is not only perfect for packing, but it also makes it super easy getting ready for the day! Fall Capsule Items

Shirts

For my capsule, I picked 2 foundational shirts and 1 shirt with a pop of color. I tried to mix different styles, fabrics, & textures to help add interesting elements to every outfit. The foundational shirts I chose are a standard black Halogen Modal Tee (love this fabric!!) and my favorite white J. Crew Mock Neck Embroidered Blouse (that you also saw in my Fall Fashion Guide post). For this fall, I chose to arrange my capsule around a deep red color to match the fall leaves. This Red Vince Silk Shirt was ideal and the silk adds a dresser element to the mix.

Sweaters

Since it’s fall, it’s time to bring out the sweaters! Similar to shirts, I picked out 1 foundational/neutral color and then 1 with the red color I chose for my fun pop of color for this fall capsule wardrobe. This helps create balance and makes it easy to mix and match with the other pieces in the rest of the capsule. For this fall capsule, I choose this amazing white Boden Sweater (old, similar Eileen Fisher sweater here). This is perfect for layering, but also wearing alone with jeans. For my pop of color, I chose this red 1901 bow sweater (how cute is the little bow!).

Pants

For my capsule, I picked 2 bottoms that go with everything and are staples. I choose these Black L’Agence Jeans and these AG High Waisted Jeans to be the perfect pants for this capsule. Both are super comfortable and look perfect with almost anything!

Dresses

For dresses, I picked 1 more casual dress (in this case in my red color) and 1 more fancy dress. Since it’s still relatively warm some days in Cincinnati, I went for red linen dress (old, similar L’Academie Midi Dress here – you also saw in this post). This dress is perfect for layering with a jacket on top for cooler days as well! For a fancier dress, I went with a traditional ‘little black dress’ with this Madewell silk dress (old, similar Vince dress here).

Layering Pieces

Next up, the various layering pieces required for fall weather! For this capsule, I included my favorite Madewell Jean Jacket, and the smoothest Vince Leather Jacket. Both of these items I featured in my Fall Fashion Guide and are a staple this fall for me. They are perfect for cooler days and nights. I also included this amazing red Rag & Bone Blazer to add a pop of color into my layers.

Shoes

I tried to keep my shoes very neutral this capsule. I included Cole Haan Booties, Michael Kors Black Flats, and a fun pair Kate Spade Leopard Print Heels (old, similar here).

Accessories

Lastly, no look would be complete without amazing accessories! For this fall capsule wardrobe, I picked pieces that would be perfect to mix and match together. I choose for jewelry the amazing Gas Bijoux Pearl Bracelet and Dean Davidson Layered Necklace. Both of these pieces work together or separately. I also included a Rebecca Minkoff Silk Scarf (old, similar Celine Silk Scarf here) that works to wear around your neck, in your hair or on your wrist as a bracelet. For a fun pop of red, I also included a Kate Spade Bow Clutch (old, similar Red by Valentino Bow Clutch here)!

Now that summer is over, it’s time to bring out the darker colors, and nothing says that more than this all black outfit. This is such a great, classic fall look!

I love this edgy look with the leather jacket and fun Leopard print heels! Leopard is the perfect fall neutral print that goes with everything, but I adore the print with all black to really make it pop!

For a more casual way to wear a leather jacket, I pair it with booties and dark jeans. I love the pop of red with the scarf for a little added color!

This is such a classic pairing for fall with a jean jacket. All black looks so great with the bright blue of the denim and I love the added red scarf to bring it all together!

I am absolutely obsessed with this fun pairing! There is something so perfect of mixing such a feminine embroidered blouse with an edgy leather jacket!

This is a perfect look for a warmer fall day! I paired the white blouse with Dior’s Rouge Dior Liquid Lip Stain to really pull the outfit together.

I love this preppy outfit for cooler fall days! This sweater paired with the blazer keeps me warm all day long (especially when the AC is still on).

I love mixing my Leather Jacket with different fabrics and I love this pairing with this fun red Vince Silk Shirt. The dark red looks amazing with the black leather and creates a fun contrast for fall.

#15 Casual Silk Outfit

Who says silk has to be formal? Pairing the more formal feel of a silk shirt with a denim jacket makes this outfit casual yet entirely effortless and perfect for my fall capsule wardrobe!

#16 So Many Bows

You can never have enough bows in my opinion! This fun 1901 tie sweater paired with a silk scarf around my wrist is a great casual fall outfit!

#17 Bows & Leather

Throwing a leather jacket on top of look #16 is a great added layer for cooler weather and creates a totally different look! I love the more edgy feel paired with the more feminine bows.

#18 Casual Red Linen Dress

Since it is still hot in Cincinnati, this outfit is great to wear around during the day. Throwing the jean jacket on top helps transition the outfit into the cooler fall evening.

Everyone has a Little Black Dress in their closet and it’s a great addition to any capsule wardrobe. For fall, I love pairing the LBD with a jean jacket to wear during the day!

#20 LBD Date Night

Last but not least, the perfect Little Black Dress! The LBD is the perfect date night outfit and this Bow Clutch really completed the look for fall!
